My initial diagnosis when I first went to the doctor with my symptoms was IBS (or Irritable Bowel Syndrome).
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a symptom-based diagnosis characterized by chronic abdominal pain, discomfort, bloating, and alteration of bowel habits. At the moment medical professional have yet to identify a single cause for IBS. Some sufferers have diarrhoea while others suffer from constipation. Still others may alternate between both diarrhoea and constipation!
Some key signs and symptoms of IBS
- abdominal pain or discomfort
- change in bowel habits such as frequent diarrhoea or constipation
- urgency in bowel movements
There may be a variety of other symptoms too!
Whilst IBS at the moment cannot be cured there are a range of treatments which can be prescribed to help ease and control symptoms. For some patients changing diet can also help.
This information is a result of my own research when I was diagnosed with IBS.
Please consult your medical professional at all times.
